MAPS&ADAS presents test results at AMAA 2006 and ADASIS Forum General Assembly
MAPS&ADAS presented the final results of the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) Interface test and validation activities at the Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA) conference on 25-27 April 2006 in Berlin.
A subproject of the Integrated Project PReVENT, MAPS&ADAS has successfully developed a standardised interface that makes it possible for ADAS applications to access safety-enhanced digital maps, thereby extending the driver’s view at least 500 to 1000 metres ahead.
Promising results
The tests carried out to validate this new interface focussed mainly on critical issues such as traffic on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus - the shared bus standard for connecting electronic control units. Vincent Blervaque, MAPS&ADAS project leader and ADASIS Forum coordinator, explained that “The results were very promising and no major barriers to future implementation were identified.”
ADAS Horizon messages represents a very low CAN bus load (less than 1%) and has no significant impact on existing CAN traffic. The transmission time also proved to be more than acceptable, less than 1 millisecond.
Regarding integrity and interoperability, the four ADAS Horizon Provider modules developed by MAPS&ADAS were successfully tested and validated. These modules have already been implemented in various PReVENT ADAS applications.
ADASIS Forum General Assembly
The expected benefits of the ADAS Horizon concept are confirmed by the development of new map-based ADAS applications such as BMW’s Dynamic Pass Prediction application, and the increasing interest and support from the automotive industry. Since 2002, 28 major industry stakeholders from vehicle manufacturers, ADAS suppliers, navigation system suppliers and digital map providers have joined the ADASIS Forum. A self-funded industry initiative coordinated by ERTICO, the Forum promotes and supports the implementation and standardisation of the ADAS Interface. The next ADASIS Forum General Assembly will be organised on 14 June 2006 at ERTICO in Brussels.
