Summary
WILLWARN developed a communication based warning system, which provides drivers with early warnings because of obstacles, adverse road and weather conditions, and hazardous construction sites. A full system approach was made regarding hazard detection, warning message management, vehicle to vehicle communication, position relevance check, and driver warning. It is a complex distributed system consisting of six demonstrator cars, 2 Road Side Units (RSU), and a lot of sub functions. For the evaluation of the Warning Message Management it is only possible to test the complete system consisting of test cars and road side unit. The following chapters show the results of single module tests and complete system tests. The final demo in November 2006 showed the full operation of the WILLWARN system and is also reported in this document.
