Executive summary
The development work started right after the SAFELANE project specification and concept phase. Most of the development resources were allocated for the vision system as it is the main sensor of the overall system. DELFI was responsible for the vision sensor system hardware (camera and processing unit) and FhG/IVI implemented the software (lane recognition). FFA took care of the Electronic Horizon a virtual sensor which is based on map data. Different additional active sensors - mainly radars - are employed in the three demonstrator cars and are described in this document from the corresponding partners (VTEC, CRF, FhG/IVI).
Concurrently with the development process the demonstrator cars were equipped with the sensors and sensor data collection campaigns were conducted. The attained data was used to devise, test and validate new algorithms.
