Executive Summary
The objectives of the INTERSAFE subproject were:
- to understand the particular intersection scenarios for which deaths and serious injury were most prevalent
- define requirements for warning systems that would bring maximum benefit in these situations
- Realise and test prototype systems meeting the prescribed requirements
This deliverable summarises the main results of the accident research, indicating the scenarios selected for study within the project. The testing of the INTERSAFE system is then briefly described, in terms of the technical results at component and system level, and the user perception of the systems. These results lead on to the requirements for further development of the systems and a description of the specific outputs of the project that will form the basis for further investigations. In particular, this includes experience from the vehicle-based tests, the availability of powerful tools such as the dynamic simulator, and sensor algorithms developed for this application.
