In-Vehicle Map Data to Support Sub-Systems
Telematics Research Group Incorporated (TRG) - News Date: 27-06-2006
Drivers will increasingly feel their vehicle is looking over their shoulder if the vision of the PReVENT MAPS&ADAS research project is succeeds, as described by Christian Ress, research engineer, telematics and navigation for Ford presenting at Telematics Update Navigation 2006 event in London last week. Using map data as virtual sensor has resulted in development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems for adaptive front lighting, lane keeping assistance, curve speed warning and fuel economy. MAPS&ADAS project is defining interface to map server data in the vehicle. Next steps involve predicting route of driver based on vehicle history and other inputs to extend the "E-Horizon." Conclusion maps support sub-systems as well as navigation
