APALACI demonstrates prefire and precrash applications
As a member of the IP PReVENT consortium, Robert Bosch Gmbh successfully demonstrated its APALACI testing prototype at the ITS in Europe Congress in Hannover, 1-3 June 2005.
The focus of the demonstration was to show the feasibility of established sensor technologies such as ultrasonic sensors. The vehicle front was equipped with surround sensing systems, based on four short range radar (SRR) and four ultrasonic sensors. The object detection could be performed in different manners by either using only one type of sensor or merging them together using sensor data fusion, which increases reliability and accuracy.
Congress visitors experienced how this system can be used to detect an impact and enhance vehicle safety. They could feel the activation of a reversible belt a few milliseconds prior an impact by the PreFire function. Furthermore, PreSet information was displayed in order to show the feasibility of improving non-reversible restraints such as an airbag system.
Besides the vehicle demonstration, a paper and a presentation completed APALACI's contribution to the event:
