May 2004 - First General Assembly
On 18 and 19 May PReVENT partners gathered in at DaimlerChrysler in Stuttgart-Möhringen, Germany to report on the progress of activities, share the plan for future work and to improve the coordination among the various workpackages. In particular, the 2004 General Assembly, being the first event of this type, intended to strengthen the understanding of the functional approach of the IP, and to present the Core Group, as well as the IP management to the consortium.

The main purpose of the event was to ensure a common understanding of the Integrated Project (IP) organisation, priorities and approach, and integration topics that are handled horizontally.
After the opening and political introduction to Integrated Projects from the standpoint from DaimlerChrysler by Horst Soboll, the IP Coordinator Peter Konhäuser introduces the Core Group members and IP Management team. Following the introduction, Mr. Minarini (European Commission) explained the perspective from the European Commission to the project. The programme on the first day furthermore featured the general project approach by Core Group member Giancarlo Alessandretti (CRF), and the perspective from EUCAR by Ulf Palmquist. After the break, special attention was given to horizontal topics by Core Group member Jean-Francois Boissou (PSA) introducing the framework currently being developed in the subproject ProFusion and subproject leader Vincent Blervaque (ERTICO) on the ongoing activities in MAPS&ADAS subproject.
After concluding the horizontal aspects in PReVENT, the Edwin Bastiaensen, IP Manager presented the organisation, global planning of PReVENT, and communication and dissemination plans as well as cooperation being set up with other programs and activities on preventive safety. His presentation was followed by IP controller Joachim Irion, explaining the quality and administrative procedures and by Wolfgang Schoenlen giving an update of the finance aspects in PReVENT.
The meeting was closed with a nice buffet offered by DaimlerChrysler providing great opportunities for networking with consortium partners, IP management, Core Group and European Commission.
On the second day. The safety function fields were explained with emphasis on the planned integration aspects. Presentations were given of the following on-going activities for the following function fields: Lateral support and driver monitoring,
Safe speed and safe following, Protection of Vulnerable Road Users, Intersection Safety. In the afternoon, the plans for the 2nd phase were presented, under moderation by ERTICO IP Manager Edwin Bastiaensen.

In his closing speech, Peter Konhäuser briefly summarises the importance of the General Assembly as an event where people can meet, where open discussions can take place between partners, subproject leaders, IP Management and Core Group as well as with the project officers from the European Commission.
This first event had the objective to strengthen the understanding of the functional approach of the IP, explain the need and approach for integration, and to provide to possibility to meet the IP management and Core Group.
The next General Assembly (consortium only) will be on 18 and 19 May 2005.
