PReVENT project showcases active safety at TRA conference
Volvo Technology was present at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2006 conference in Gothenburg, Sweden, 12-16 June, with a mobile driving simulator. The simulator consisted of a Volvo truck cockpit mock-up and a simulated road scene displayed on a large plasma screen in front of the driver, demonstrating concepts and results from AIDE and selected PReVENT subprojects.
Visitors were able to experience preventive and active safety applications such as active lane keeping support (SAFELANE) and start inhibit (APALACI) and the integration of these functions with the adaptive and integrated Human Machine Interface concept from the AIDE project. Furthermore, the potential of a series of safety functions developed in PReVENT subprojects (SAFELANE, APALACI, COMPOSE, LATERAL SAFE, INSAFES and MAPS&ADAS) were presented on a big plasma screen, informing the large number of interested visitors of the potential of these technologies.
The specifications and architecture for PReVENT safety functions was also presented at the conference, describing PReVENT’s overall architecture structure and principles. The presentation showed how the different applications complement each other in the creation of an electronic safety zone around the vehicle and detailed the different subproject specifications. Moreover, the first steps towards an integrated preventive environment were presented.
TRA 2006 focussed on the implementation of the European Research Area in support of a sustainable, more efficient and safer road transport system in Europe. The event was organised jointly by the European Commission, the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC), and the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR).
