ProFusion2 to address recommendations on sensor data fusion and architecture
Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) require a tremendous perception and decision performance. Hence, the use of multiple sensors and sensor data fusion (SDF) is inevitable to meet these requirements. The aim of the IP PReVENT ProFusion 1 subproject was to identify and gather the needs concerning SDF. The follow-up ProFusion2 plans to develop a sensor data fusion framework within selected subprojects of IP PReVENT.
On 14-15 April 2005, the newly formed consortium of ProFusion2 held its kick-off meeting at the Delphi Customer Technical Center (CTC) in Wuppertal, Germany. The CTC is a large facility of Delphi with more than 1200 employees.
The goal of the meeting was to set up the ProFusion 2 workplan until January 2008 and kick-off the first research activities. ProFusion2 is following the recommendations of ProFusion 1 issued in June 2004 within the IP PReVENT framework. Its main results will be a flexible and modular sensor data fusion architecture, using multi sensor algorithms and extended models. The techniques developed for driver assistance systems will go well beyond the state-of-the-art. In addition, the consortium will maintain a fusion forum, which will promote the deployment of sensor data and information fusion in driver assistance systems.
Dr Su-Birm Park, Project Manager at Delphi, will lead the ProFusion2 subproject. The consortium is represented by 11 partners: Delphi, BMW Research and Technology, CRF, DaimlerChrysler, FORWISS, IBEO, ICCS, INRIA, SAGEM, TUC, and Volvo Technology.
