WILLWARN shares its cooperative technology
A joint meeting took place between the IP PReVENT subproject WILLWARN and members of the Network on Wheels (NOW) project in the beginning of July. NOW, a communication project that is funded by the German government, is the follow-up project to FleetNET. At the meeting, the WILLWARN consortium agreed upon forming a joint task force for communication issues. The task force, consisting of WILLWARN communication and application experts and NOW representatives, will focus on the integration of the WILLWARN application's communication needs with the NOW project, as well as the use of NOW communication hardware in WILLWARN.
The first meeting of the task force took place at DaimlerChrysler in Boeblingen, Germany at the end of July. WILLWARN representatives presented their requirements and first ideas for solving the routing problem for rural roads with low traffic as well as overcrowded highways. A discussion and integration process has gotten underway. Eventually, WILLWARN will share hardware and routing protocols with NOW, and NOW will provide application results. The next meeting of the task force is planned to take place 16 September.
In addition, the WILLWARN and INTERSAFE subprojects are collaborating on the design of their cooperative systems for vehicle-to-vehicle technology. INTERSAFE uses communication between vehicles and the infrastructure, and is closely connected to the WILLWARN communication technology effort in this area. Both projects will benefit from sharing communication technologies, solutions and needs and allow for common interests and problems to be discussed in a fruitful way.
