14th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems
9 - 13 October 2007
The 14th World Congress on ITS will take place in Beijing, China, October 9-13, 2007, with the theme of "ITS for a Better Life". Based on the success of past Congresses, it will bring together representatives of governments and related organizations as well as industry experts from many countries in the world, providing a unique exchange of ideas on ITS and discussing strategies and initiatives. The Congress will also review and showcase the ITS industry's latest products and technological achievements, offering a window on future trends. At the same time the Congress will give the world a glimpse at China's ITS achievements by organizing technical tours and sightseeing activities, including the ITS projects underway in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2010 Shanghai Expo and Guangzhou Asia Games

Proposed Special Session : PReVENT: Results of Integration of Preventive Safety Systems
The Integrated Project PReVENT is a European automotive industry activity, co-funded by the European Commission to contribute to road safety by developing and demonstrating preventive and active safety applications and technologies. Preventive and active safety applications make use of sensor data, communication, map and positioning technologies in order to provide solutions to help the drivers to maintain a safe speed and keep a safe distance, drive within the lane and overtake, safely pass intersections, and mitigate the severity of a collision for the passengers and any vulnerable road users.
The objective of this special session is to provide an overview of selected results achieved within PReVENT.
This special session will include a short overview of the PReVENT integrated project, a summary of the large scale demonstration at the IP exhibition, an overview of the use of sensors and maps for better perception, and a discussion on the integration of safety applications. In addition, assessment of safety functions and some research challenges for the future will be discussed.

Positioning and path prediction for scenario assessment of safe speed system

This paper describes the algorithms that were developed in the scenario assessment modules of IP PReVENT subproject SASPENCE. These algorithms aim at achieving a reliable representation of the host and other vehicles states and their kinematics, by processing the input data from sensors and other sources providing higher quality of information to the Warning and Intervention Strategies and HMI modules of the overall system. The work presented in this paper focuses mainly on the vehicle positioning and state estimation system together with the path prediction modules for host vehicle and other vehicles
