D31.42 Actuator System
SAFELANE
Confidential document
Executive Summary
The goal of this work consisted in designing driver assistance systems, from hardware to software, that were able to support the driver with lane keeping in situations when a lane departure is imminent or detected. The development work started after ending the SAFELANE project specification and concept phases.
SAFELANE is structured in different modules. The sensor module is responsible by the vehicle localization. The decision module, on the other hand, carries out an identification of the situation danger and sends an input to the actuator that acts to avoid the lane departure by warning or active steering.
In order to develop the lane keeping systems, interaction modes between driver and automat (that is, how, being less or more intrusive, the automat can help the driver) have been studied. After this step, two main (interdependent) parts had to be dealt with: the construction of the actuator and the definition/construction of the HMI
