Technical abstract
The overall goal of PReVENT is the development of safety systems in order to avoid accidents. The goal of the INTERSAFE subproject is the prevention of accidents within intersections. Traffic situations within intersections are of high complexity because of the huge number of different road users coming from various directions. In order to reach this, several new technologies are about to be tested and implemented. Those that are proposed shall be described in detail.
Therefore, this report mainly introduces:
-
The architecture of an intersection assistance system is explained following the example of a prototype car. Its structure is oriented at the different levels of sensing, perception and application.
-
The proposed technologies are described providing detailed specifications and evaluations of - the sensors, - the map module, - the communication module, - the HMI and - the test site
-
The sensor technology is oriented on the high precision and the need of knowledge of the relevant road users depending on the actual situation. The specifications are given regarding: - field of view, - range and - accuracy
Future specifications of sensors will be the result of the simulator studies at the end of the project.
The communication allows the use of infrastructure information, hich widens the horizon. One of the major tasks is the use of the ight frequency. It is strongly related to the standards used in other rojects like WILLWARN, in order to reach one common nderstanding in this field.
The HMI has to take the level of assistance into account. At a first sep towards intersection safety systems, the information and warning level will be used because at the moment this seems to be most appropriate to technical possibilities and closest to the user needs.
The test site has different specifications. In parallel, two testing methods will be established:
