D40.4 Requirements for intersection safety applications
INTERSAFE
Public document
Technical Abstract The main objective of the INTERSAFE subproject is to improve safety and to reduce (in the long term avoid) fatal collisions at intersections. Drivers shall be prevented from missing red lights at intersections or ignoring stop signs. Furthermore, drivers will be informed in case of turning to avoid collisions with other vehicles. This will be achieved by use of infrastructure to vehicle communication and path prediction of other road users. On available test vehicles, there will be driver warning functions implemented. Speed recommendations for the driver, when approaching an intersection will be given, depending on the intended colour of the traffic light when crossing the intersection or turning at the intersection, so that there is no risk of collision. The trajectories of the ego vehicle and other nearby vehicles will be predicted by using a Laserscanner and a vision sensor. An additional driving simulator approach allows the development of active safety applications with state-of-the-art-technology as well as technology which will be available in the future. This parameterised technology can easily be included in various configurations. Thus, the system functionality and the system-specific potential for accident prevention and accident mitigation achievements can be proven in a quantitative, risk-free and reproducible manner.
