Executive summary
In this report a feasibility study regarding the usability of pyroelectric sensors for the detection of vulnerable road users in automotive safety application is conducted. Some features of the pyroelectric devices are quite promising, while some deficiencies of the commercial, off-the-shelf available sensors actually
disqualify them for automotive use. Especially false alarms from sensor movement or fast temperature changes have to be compensated to make such pyroelectric device a possible candidate for automotive applications.
