Executive summary
The Integrated Project PReVENT makes the first comprehensive attempt towards realising the vision of an electronic safety zone around vehicles. This is targeted by developing a number of applications assisting the driver in the lateral and longitudinal control of vehicles or, in case of an unavoidable accident, mitigating its consequences. The subproject UseRCams is part of the PReVENT function field “Vulnerable Road User and Collision Mitigation” and devoted to the development of a novel 3D range camera for all around vehicle surveillance within distances up to 25 m. Within UseRCams the essential specifications of this camera have been compiled and its core technologies have been developed. Several prototype cameras have been assembled and integrated into demonstrator vehicles for evaluation in traffic scenarios.
