Abstract
The toll of road fatalities has fuelled an urgent need for future vehicles to detect Vulnerable Road Users (pedestrians, cyclists) in order either to avoid contact, or to trigger adequate measures to mitigate collision when it cannot be avoided. We shall present the results of our research, and which path we intend to follow toward VRU
protection. The support of the European Commission through Integrated Project PReVENT/Compose of
the Sixth Framework Programme is gratefully acknowledged.
